Who Am I?

I am a daughter.
I am a sister.
I am an aunt.
I an a teacher.
I am a friend.
I am a person with multiple sclerosis.

In February of 2006, I was nearly finished my education degree at the University of Ottawa when MS blinded me. Coping was hard. Understanding was hard. Waking up in the morning, getting dressed, and trying to move on with my life seemed unsurmountable. It was then I stumbled across the Walk for MS. Initially it was an act of desperation, finally something I could do to help myself.

It's now 2 years later, nearly $30,000 later, 50 people joining later and no longer an act of desperation. Buttons and Beaus doing the Walk for MS is a celebration. We walk as friends, family, and as community.

I cannot even begin to explain how incredible it is to have a 50 person cheering squad, walk 5 km for you. I can't even begin to explain how important the MS Society is to me, other people with MS and our futures. I believe in this organization, that not only commits itself to persons with MS, but also to research. Research is the key. In my lifetime I want to be able to say "I once had MS."
