This is Mom

I am Carol Button from Dalhousie New Brunswick. Although I am retired, my days are filled with caring for my family, walking for my health, and I am actively involved in numerous local organizations. I love to sew and knit and am always looking for new projects.

I walk to support my daughter Beth who has chosen to focus her energies on being a great teacher, living life to its fullest, and doing all she can to help support the MS Society in their search for a cure. Having taught her to be strong and never take things for granted and that we can overcome obstacles with the support of family and friends, I look forward to joining her cause once again this year. I walk to show Beth how very proud we are to be her mom and dad.

This is Dad

My name is Clark Button and I am retired papermaker who lives in a small town in northern New Brunswick called Dalhousie. It's on the north shore of New Brunswick. There's no shore like the north shore, that's for sure.

Why I do the Walk for MS?

I happen to be Beth's father. Until last year, I did not know too much about MS. Then there was the phone call from Beth telling me that she had it. Since that time and joining Beth's team and being able to talk to the all fine people on the team and all the others involved in the research, the battle I think will be won.

This is Nancy

I am a very lucky person. I have my health. I have my friends and family. I have a roof over my head. I have a good education. I have a good job. I am doing what I want with my life. Because of all these blessings in my life, I feel the need to take a step back and realize that there are people out there who are not as lucky as I am. That's why I walk. I walk so I can give a little something back to a universe that has given me so much.

Oh, and I kinda like Beth too ;)

This is Karyn

I'm Karyn, and I am a 26-year old elementary school teacher and University of Ottawa graduate.

Why do I walk for MS? Because I want to make a difference so that people like my friend Beth will see a cure in their lifetime and be free to live their lives without Multiple Sclerosis running it for them.

This is Michelle

I am Michelle Rattan. I am a daughter, sister, friend, teacher. I am outgoing, adore laughing more than anything in the world, enjoy learning new things and creating wonderful memories with those closest to me. I am strong in heart, sing and cook to lift my spirits, LOVE meeting new people and can count from 10 to 1 with my eyes closed and a finger on my nose:o)

I walk to support my friend Beth in the fight against MS...but also to support and fight alongside all those who have been diagnosed and will be diagnosed. I walk to make a statement with hundreds of others that MS can be beaten and that the human spirit can be stronger than any physical disease.

This is Mo

Hi, my name is Moronike Laleye, most people call me Mo. I am a first year teacher currently teaching at Darcy McGee High school until the regular teacher comes back from a back injury. In my free time I love playing basketball and hanging out with my friends. I also love to travel, in September I did the whole back packing of Europe trip. I had an awesome time.

How would I describe myself… the biggest procrastinator, I always put things to the last minute but I really am trying to change, really I am!! And I’m also quiet but still goofy at times. I guess you can call it being a big kid at heart!

Why do I walk?

I walk for Beth. I met Beth last year when we were in the same section in teacher’s college at Ottawa U. She is a great gal; we got along easily and were in several group projects together. I respect Beth for the person that she is, such warmth and love of life shines from her that is so admirable.

I also walk for my boyfriend’s mom, Virginia. She is a strong woman that has had MS for many years. She is healthy, active and always smiling. Her positive attitude and her trait of always looking on the bright side of things are contagious.

I walk to support the Canadians that have been affected by MS. Walking and fundraising will bring more money to fund research towards MS to help find a cure.

This is Richard

I am a mathematician who works for the government.

Why do I do the Walk for MS?

I first heard about MS in the fall of 1996, during my frosh week at the University of Waterloo. We held a fundraiser during frosh week for a disease I had never previously heard of, for a cause that meant nothing to me - the only thing I remember back was the spelling of the word "sclerosis". Over the past 10 years, I have met several people with MS, who have battled their circumstances with optimism and hope, and they have inspired me and numerous others to learn more about the condition. I met Beth last year, shortly after moving to Ottawa. Her strength and ability to turn "lemons into lemonade" is truly remarkable, and I was delighted to be a part of Buttons and Beaus last year. I am thrilled to be a part of Beth's team once again this year, and I look forward to taking part in the Supercities Walk for many more years to come.

This Is Me

I guess without trying to sound egocentric, I am the reason Buttons and Beaus came to be. Not because I grew up with any profound desire to be a fundraiser, not because I had a long history with the MS Society. In all honesty, the initial reason Buttons and Beaus was created, was a way to deal with my own personal grief.

At 24, partway through my B. Ed at the University of Ottawa, being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis was the last thing I ever expected to happen. But it did. One day I was fine. The next day my eyes couldn't see straight. Overnight my life seemed to change. That was one year ago.

Here I am today, still a little bit scared about what my future holds, but in the meantime, I hold my head up high. I have MS but there is no way that MS will ever have me. I'm going to advocate, I'm going to spread the word. We can do this.

Why do I do the walk for MS?

I do the walk because I'm lucky. I do the walk because I have so many friends and family standing not behind me, but alongside me. I do the walk because I don't want to end up in a wheelchair. I do the walk because I can. I do it because I am not going to sit at home, waiting for this disease to take my life away, I simply won't let it.

Buttons and Beaus est. 2006

This is us.

This is our team.

This is Buttons and Beaus.

We are people of many ages, backgrounds and beliefs who have come together to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis.

When 24-year-old Beth Button was diagnosed with MS in February of 2006, her friends, family and community were shocked. No one, including Beth had imagined that this could happen. Everyone was left in a state of confusion wondering "How can I help?" This was when Beth stumpled upon the Supercities Walk for MS. Buttons and Beaus was quickly formed, a group make up of Beth, friends, family, and community members.

In less than three months, Buttons and Beaus surpassed all expectations by raising over $13,000 in their very first fundraising season. This year, with hard work and dedication, the team is working towards raising $15,000.

We need support. We need donations. We need people to spread the word.

With help, we can reach our goal.
